Passing Wisdom to the Next Generation

The team and I at Melissa Libby & Associates are reading “Unreasonable Hospitality” by Will Guidara. The book explores the power of going above and beyond in the service industry to create unforgettable experiences.

In Chapter 10, Guidara emphasizes the importance of creating a culture of collaboration and passing on knowledge and wisdom to the next generation – they are our future!

This past school year, a friend’s daughter asked me to be her mentor for a yearlong high school project centered around food marketing. Throughout the year, we met and discussed her project. The extent of her research and her writing impressed me; I think I learned just as much from her as she did from me.

I’ve known this young lady since she was a baby, and it’s an honor that she’d ask me to serve in such a meaningful role. It was fun to share my stories and experiences with her and hopefully inspire and contribute to her growth in this field.

The project culminated with me going to Asheville to be on the panel of her presentation – she did an outstanding job and it was truly a rewarding experience.

Here’s to the next generation!
